The Cloak, Quirky's revolutionary new iPad case, is ready to ship after weeks of anticipation. Almost 2,600 orders have been sent in, and that means a nice slice of profit for those in Quirky's social community who have contributed to its development. The Cloak is the dream of Michael McCoy, an African American mechanical engineer, who first conceived of the Cloak. Michael will receive $6.23 for each Cloak sold - so far he's earned over $18,000 on over $342,000 in sales. The numbers are changing every minute, and once the media reviews are seen, sales will skyrocket. The current price for Cloak is $54.99.

interesting...I have seen quite a few iPads in use but I haven't seen one propped up yet....either they are laying flat or held like a clipboard.
Maybe it might be because they didn't have the Cloak huh? lol Nice product.

Yeah, that was one of the main features we wanted to design - the capability to prop up for typing, as well as viewing books and widescreen video. The Apple iPad case, which I bought to tide me over until the Cloak came out - doesn't even come close to the adaptability of Cloak. I just wish they had more available colors, but black is beautiful, and it goes well with the bag I have in mind. You can tell by the excitement in the video that documents the arrival of the first units that we have waited a long time for this.

My excitement has waned - FedEx delivered my Cloak to the wrong address (!) and I never received it.

A neighbor anonymously returned my package and now I have The Cloak. It is heavier than I thought, but it is solid and strong enough to keep the iPad safe from bumps and bruises. I feel confident that if my iPad fell down, The Cloak would protect it. That said, I doubt that I would use this case to hold my iPad while I'm just lounging around the house. It's a little too bulky and way too heavy for casual use. I'll give it a 4!

Since the iPad has the "scratch resistance" glass front, wouldn't something like the 'bumper' or just a 'skin' suffice? I would only want something more when I'm traveling with it to strap across my shoulder. Outside of that, just something to protect the edges in case I drop it would suffice for me I would think. I have to have a case or some sort of protection...I tried using my iPhone naked and it drove me crazy, and since I took the screen protector off (hate it lol) I am so cautious of how I handle it...I'm about to go back to the full metal jacket.
