Atiyah
Shabazz
(l.), 15, is one of five siblings who are all honor students in their
respective schools. Their mom, Yasmin Shabazz, a single mother has
worked hard to instill in her children a strong sense of self esteem.
Atiyah is a gifted writer and illustrator, and we look forward to seeing
how her computer will help her in her school work.

Meet
The Elder Family. Tony Elder (r.) is a 16 year
old student at Frederick Douglas High School. A gifted Art student,
Tony is already proficient in several brands of graphics-oriented computer
software. His art teacher, Ms Celeste Johnson, wrote to us: "Having a
computer and printer in his home will insure that Tony has the opportunity
to be thorough, creative and successful in his work." It is
true what they say about a picture being worth a thousand words. Look at
this photo. You see Tony standing tall, just like his dad, Anthony (l.)
with his Mom and little sister looking on with pride. I get a lot of
credit for placing computers into people's homes. But I've got a
feeling that the two kids in this photo could have eventually designed
their own computer. That's what a nurturing, loving environment will do.

Mom
Mary Reedy and daughter Jasmine wait patiently as
MKN Vice President Glenn Hearn prepares to load a computer into their car.
Ms. Reedy's son Xavier had to work and was unable to attend, but mom is
grateful that he has a summer job. Xavier, who just turned 17, is a
student at Creekside High School. In explaining why Xavier needs a
computer, his History teacher, Ms. Doretha Melton, wrote: "There are
several assignments that require Internet research and the ability to
produce a report from the use of a computer. The assignments given usually
begin in class or the Media Center, however due to the shortage of
computers in school, the students are not able to complete their
assignments in school and must take the assignments home to
complete." We're sure that a computer will not only help
Xavier, but will also help his sister Jasmine excel, as well.

Megan
Howell, 8, is a student at Tabernacle of David Christian Academy in
Riverdale Georgia. There her Vice Principal, Cacelia Lynn Bryant, wrote to
MKN: Megan Howell would be an excellent candidate for your program. She is
an academically aggressive third grader who loves to learn. This student's
mother is regularly involved in her child's education." Megan
has two older brothers - Christopher (14) and Darrel (15)- who will also
benefit greatly from having a computer at home. Their very special mom,
Ms. Christe Mumford works hard to ensure that her children are properly
motivated. MKN is very pleased to be able to help this family with a
computer.

Tanika
Owens (below) is an 8-year old student at Cary Reynolds Elementary
School in Doraville. Her mom, Tamika Poole (l.), came to pick up the
computer because Tanika is away on vacation.
Her Progress report indicates that A-Student Tanika, had some trouble with mathematics at the beginning of the school term. Her 6-week progress report garnered a C in Math. By her 12-week report, Tanika's hard work had turned that C into an A!! MKN is proud of her and her mom.
